Less is more

When it comes to decent Forum PPC, Adsense, or other contextual based forms of advertising, sometimes Louis Sullivan's theory of "Less Is More" applies. Though many confuse Wright as the author of this minimalist approach at simplicity, it was Wright's teacher Sullivan who arguably made it well known in 19th Century Architecture.

However, it could be argued that architect and furniture designer Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe created this proverbial phrase. I've seen finer examples in Sullivan's and Wright's work, and as such subscribe to the same philosophy that less is truly more.

Keeping things simple, straight forward and devoid of clutter tends to lead the visitor on a path towards both content and advertisement. The way you meld the two is up to you, just make sure you never over burden a site with more ad than content. You'll find greater results and higher penetration with less clutter.

Adwords use = SERPs?

So, it has come to my attention that those using Adwords to promote their directories are finding themselves listed/indexed only when actually spending money with Adwords.

Stop spending money, and the SERPs drop. While I have not personally experienced this, a wide number of directory owners on various webmaster forums have indicated that they have seen this to be the case.
